10 fashion hacks

10 fashion hacks

Hello beautiful people! I hope you’re doing amazing. Today I want to share with you some of my guidelines to look fashionable even if your clothes are not the trendiest or if you’re using a capsule wardrobe. Let’s get started!

  1. Shoes should always match your bag

It doesn’t matter if your outfit is full black, multicolour or golden, your shoes have to be the same colour as your bag. Why? Because this will create a very nice optical effect that the outfit is very well put together. This applies to any kind of outfit. So remember: black bag, black shoes; yellow bag, yellow shoes.

2. Know your colours

I am planning on writing more in depth about colour analysis and how to very easily understand it. In my case, I learnt from mistakes. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to the gym or to a wedding, you should always wear colours that suit your skin tone, hair colour, etc. You will appreciate this advice specially if you’re going to take pictures, it’s incredible how you can be the centre of attention or disappear, depending on the colours you have on yourself.

3. Don’t be afraid

I spent many years thinking that people will judge me for the clothes I wear and it kept me from using pieces that I loved but that in my mind were a bit too extra. As long as you’re comfortable and you feel pretty, sexy, whatever, you should wear it. Underdressing is way worse than overdressing, I can promise you. My grandma had a long, faux fur leopard coat that I always loved and I didn’t dare to wear it until I turned 25. Don’t be like me. Go for it!

4. Keep it respectful

This is pretty much connected with point number 3. Yes, wear whatever makes you vibe, go for your dream outfit, but remember to have situational awareness. Not all clothes are correct or even permitted depending on where you are, and it has a lot to do with your respect for the culture or place that you are visiting. For example: I went to Italy a few years ago and I was wearing a tank top with a long skirt. Of course, in Italy they are very conservative with which clothes you can wear into church, so I brought a small cardigan with me that I could fit in my bag. It’s not about not wearing your best fit, it’s about adapting.

5. Proportions

This is a very important topic that not many people take into consideration when choosing, for instance, a dress. There are many different bodytypes with different proportions, for this reason you should be selecting pieces according to your bodytype. I will also write a more detailed post about this so you don’t have to puzzle over it or investigate in webpages that will only confuse you more. Just be aware of your bodytype and try to focus on outfits that enhance your natural features rather than hide them.

6. Hair and make-up

Your hair and make-up can either make a boring outfit look bomb or make a great outfit look like sh**. Listen up, do your make-up, it doesn’t matter if it’s subtle and cute and clean or if you want to give a bold look, it completely changes the game and you should take advantage of it. If you’re not a make-up girlie, just throw on some bb cream, bronzer and mascara and you got it! Now, your hair, it is very important that you take care of it, I’m not saying that you should do your curls everyday before you go out, not at all, but using the right products and keeping it moisturized and shiny will do the job, brush it before you go to bed so it will not tangle as much while you sleep and give it some love.

7. Don’t spend too much

We are in 2024, it is not necessary anymore to spends hundreds in clothes because the materials are not as expensive as they used to be. With this, I am not saying that we should not buy consciously and avoid companies that endanger the human rights of their employees, but I believe there is a huge selection of shops and firmas that sell sustainable fashion at affordable prices. Wear fabrics that suit you and don’t settle for anything, I recommend also buying clothes in shops rather than online, because there you can actually see if the piece is fitting right, if you’re willing to do any adjustments or if you ACTUALLY really like it. Also, you will avoid the headache of having to return items.

8. Find your style

You can be emo, pinup, skater, whatever you want. We have a saying in Spanish: “pa’ gustos, colores”, which basically means that there is a colour for every taste imaginable. Finding your own style and keeping it constant will elevate your look because you will always have an idea what you want to wear. It is also very useful to have a “uniform”, a go-to outfit that you can always pick when you don’t know what to wear. Having a characteristic style for yourself will make people associate this style with you, so be careful what you pick!

9. Pay attention to your size

I know it’s super nice to wear a belt that makes a tiny waist and a huge peach, but is it really worth it to sacrifize your breath? You will stand it for a couple hours but then you will be gasping for air, please don’t. A bigger size may not make an hourglass figure out of you, but it will for sure be a lot more comfortable on the long run (and save your organs for the uncertain future). It’s great to enjoy fashion without torturing oneself.

10. Choose the right heels

Wearing stilettos is sexy, it looks bomb in any outfit, you can combine them with almost anything and everything. Yes but, for how long? I have been wearing heels for years (even in my job it is compulsory), I can promise you that a lower heel does not kill an outfit. Yes, some fits look better with a high, thin and fancy heel, but most probably you will be able to pull it off with a lower one that will also allow you to stand longer! (or dance longer). I have been following a page on instagram called @themostcomfortableheels, please go follow her. She is a high heel coach who will explain to you how to choose the most comfortable heel for you, how to walk, how to train your feet, how to last longer on them. I remember she said once, the highest heels you will stand are the ones you can tiptoe on, once your feet lose their flexibility, then forget it.

Extra tip: Don’t mix white bottoms with black shoes! You will look shorter!

I really hope you enjoyed my tips! See you soon!
