Capsule wardrobe

Hello again, beautiful people! I hope you’ve been doing amazing on this last month, enjoying the first rays of sun and getting all your happiness hormones up! I have been off from here because I spent 3 weeks on holidays, I visited my boyfriend’s family in Colombia and then on arrival in Spain I went directly to my parents’ house in the North. Good times… and now back to work!

Today I want to introduce you into the “capsule wardrobe closet”. You may have heard about it, as it has been becoming very popular in the last few years. It’s basically a selection of garments that can be combined with one another to create a bunch of different outfits from just a few pieces. It is a very good alternative for people who travel a lot or who prefer quality over quantity.

I have personally experienced what it’s like to have a capsule wardrobe at the time when my current airline was giving us accommodation in different hotels. Hotel rooms sometimes are not too spacious and I was kinda forced to live with just the essentials. I’ve created a list of pros and cons, hope it helps!

PROS:

  1. You don’t have to think. It’s super easy to just open your closet and take whatever because you know it will match. This was a relief sometimes because we all know the struggle.
  2. You save a lot of money. If you don’t need so many clothes, you don’t spend money on them, easy as that, it helps you save or invest on other things that are more worth your income.
  3. You can have better quality clothes. If you’re going to use the same, let’s say 30, pieces of clothing over and over, you might as well want to buy quality and not just the cheapest you can find. This will elevate your outfits and make your style more curated.
  4. You get to keep only your favourites. The idea of a capsule wardrobe is of course, being able to combine most of the pieces together, but also to LOVE what you own. There’s no point on building a 30 piece closet of things that you find boring or ugly, so getting to wear only your favourite clothes makes every day a little bit more special.
  5. You can carry all your clothes in a cabin size bag. This was my favourite part, I could carry literally all my clothes into a small suitcase. Traveling lightweight and feeling like you don’t need more is probably one of the most heartwarming sensations I’ve had.

CONS:

  1. You will get bored. Some people make the mistake of buying a bunch of basics and get rid of their previous garments, which is awful. You will think you have nothing to wear again and your outfits will feel absolutely dull.
  2. You will feel frustrated. As a fashion lover, I experienced frustration many times when I was seeing clothes or outfits that I loved but that I could not purchase because they didn’t fit in with the rest or because they were very formal and I wouldn’t give them much use, which goes against the capsule wardrobe criteria.
  3. You will wash and wash and wash. One thing that I was struggling with when I had my capsule wardrobe was having to wash my clothes every 2-3 days because sometimes I had nothing wearable, or the super versatile piece that I needed for a specific outfit was dirty.
  4. You miss one piece, you miss 10 outfits. When every garment is combinable you create in your mind a series of outfits that you go to whenever you make a plan. Now imagine that one of the main pieces goes missing, you will lose that outfit and probably around 10 more.
  5. You will miss your old clothes. I was lucky that most of my old clothes were waiting for me at my parents’ house because I was absolutely desperate to go on holidays and be able to wear them again. Some people choose to donate them and then they find themselves looking for dupes on Vinted (talking from experience).

So that’s it my beautiful Tangs! I hope I could make you consider at least getting a capsule wardrobe for at least once. Give it a try, you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose and it will actually make you realize how many clothes you own and absolutely never wear. I will talk about this in more depth, I’m gonna be giving you a few tips on how to identify the ghosts in your closet (that are always there but you never use) and I wish you a great week! Kisses!!
