Shopping Reality

My beautiful little Tangs, I am here to give you bad news today… Fashion sucks. I’m not sure if it’s me growing older and grumpier or if actually shops are selling trash. I don’t want to talk about any specific retail company because I’m not trying to hate on your favourite shops, but I am honestly and deeply disappointed with what I’ve been seeing in the last months.

Contrary to what you may think, I don’t go clothes shopping so often and when I do, I visit local shops because they have more original items than the big franchises and it’s much nicer to shop in a place that is not crowded. Second hand shops hide true relics inside so you should keep your eyes open when you visit one!

I don’t have a body out of the norm, I’m not spectacularly curvy or super skinny, so I don’t understand why I can’t go to a shop and find things that fit me properly. I am aware that some shops offer clothes for different body types or different ages and this is, in my opinion, fantastic. Some stores will offer sizes more suitable for teen bodies, while some others may have a different sizing for more mature bodies.

Apart from the size madness, what really caught me is how fabrics are chosen and patterns are designed to fit a mannequin with measures that would only be suitable for 0,003% of the population (no real data here, just exaggerating a lil’ bit). Garments are not sewn properly, fabrics are itchy and uncomfortable and usually there’s not even a lining to be found.

I know what you guys are thinking: “you wanna pay 10 euros for a blazer and complain it’s not taylor-made”. No, this is not the case. If I pay 10 euros for a blazer many people will need to get benefit from that, starting with the person who made the fabric and finishing with the shopping assistant who sold it to me. After this chain, there should be a percentage from the price that all these people will be earning, so no, I’m not expecting Armani quality from a 10 euro blazer.

The problem starts when I pay 50-70 euros for a simple piece of fabric (let’s say a pencil skirt) that has many manufacturing errors, visible sewing lines that shouldn’t be there, loose threads and a bad quality fabric that doesn’t even let my skin breathe. THIS is the problem, we are accommodating to this kind of quality which isn’t the normal, we are accepting that big companies are selling products for high prices that our grandmas back in the day wouldn’t even use to clean the dishes.

Fortunately, not all fashion houses are like this and you can still find in the market many brands that are doing things properly. This is another topic I would like to discuss in the blog in further publications because I think it’s affecting us all. With this, I’m not looking to be sponsored by anyone and I’m not trying to be controversial, I just want everyone to have the chance to spend their money wisely and pay for what they truly asked for.

I have recently started my Personal Shopper studies, I’m super excited about this guys, really, I hope I will be able to throw some light on a lot of styling issues you may encounter and that I’m able to make your shopping and fashion life a tiny bit easier.

Once again, thank you so much for reading, it was a though topic to write about because I don’t want to make it sound like I’m scolding anyone or complaining about a certain brand. This is just my general vision of regular fashion nowadays, fashion you can buy everyday in regular shops. I hope you guys enjoyed, be sure I will be coming back to this subject, I wish you a very nice beginning of November and I want you all to stay as beautiful and true to yourselves as you can!! Kisses!!!!!!
